The web is represents a living textbook where we can find and share information that applies school-based learning to real-world learning.  It is fun to begin class with a short news article that puts the information we study in an authentic context. 

I create these newsletters, which I call "Takin' Care of Business" by searching the 'net for current articles and posts that relate to classroom work and discussions.  They provide "icebreaking" discussions to begin class or writing prompts.

I post them online to make them easier to share, though often print them as handouts used in lesson plans.  All copyrighted materials included are cited and used under "fair use".
